We were finally able to pick our first piece of asparagus that we’ve grown here at home. We bought year old roots three years ago and have left them be up until now. While its not enough for a meal, it was exciting to harvest our own asparagus for the first time. Yes, we are simple folks.

A friend told me about a few wild patches of asparagus next to the road. The girls and I cruised the country roads between home and those spots looking for wild patches. In all we recorded 5 great patches on the GPS. The GPS should make it easy to find next spring.

I planted for bunches of year old asparagus roots last spring and went out to check on them today. I was tickled to find all four were pushing up shoots! We will let these go another year and eat some next year. It’s exciting to see it growing but disappointing not being able to enjoy it just yet.
