The garden has been tilled once in preparation of planting. We decided to cut the seed potatoes and allow them to start scanning before planting. This year we will have some reds for new potatoes, some brown Russets and the beautiful Yukon Gold.

My brother brought me some of these food grade plastic 4 gallon containers. They’ve got a bung with a water tight o-ring just like the food grade 55 gallon drums. They should be great containers for storing drinking water or even dry goods with a hand warmer or two thrown in to remove the oxygen for long term storage. They need to be washed and dried before they’re used but that’s easy!

Recently I noticed the tail end of a bag of potatoes that were in need of being used up. I elected to dehydrate them. After boiling and sitting in the fridge over night I broke out the meat slicer to cut these up. Even after chilling in the refrigerator over night it really made a mess of the slicer. I suffered through it only long enough to finish up one dehydrator tray and then quickly switched to dicing the remaining spuds. This time tomorrow these will be done and ready to be put away!

Today we finished putting a bunch of food we dehydrated into long term storage. Here they are before being put away.

We also got a few more things added to the dehydrator that were getting towards the end of their life.
