Heath
Yesterday afternoon my neighbor called and asked if I’d like some liquid gold for our garden. He had taken two loads of cattle to the city and had a trailer full of manure. He backed up to the garden and we pushed from the front towards the back with our shovels. He got help cleaning out the trailer and I got some wonderful manure for the garden. We were both tickled!
It is hard to tell how much is there in this picture, but I’d estimate it to be covering a 4 by 6 piece of the garden and is several inches thick. It will sit there until spring before being broken up, spread around the garden and then tilled into the soil.

My awesome neighbor brought me a load of composted cow manure and hay for the garden. After spreading it out and letting it dry completely we hit it with the tiller and worked it into the soil. I think it looks wonderful.

There was an add on Craigslist recently for free horse manure. They had a bunch to get rid of and had a tractor with a front end loader available to load it onto a trailer. With some temporary sides on a flatbed I went out today and got everything they had for a compost pile for the garden. There is a good mix of hay and manure, so it should make a great compost for next years garden. Hopefully I can add more hay, straw, grass clippings and chicken droppings to this pile through the summer and have a bunch of wonderful dirt for our 2013 garden.
