Tree frog
Sidney caught a tree frog and brought it around for a couple of pictures before turning it loose. These are some pretty cool creatures.

Sidney walked out front where I was looking at the garden to show me she had caught our rooster Big Ben. He is 2 years old in two months and is a silver laced Wyandotte.
This poor girl has been home sick all week. She has been running a fever and coughing since Sunday night. She’s been a trooper through all of this but I sure wish she would get to feeling better. She likes going to school so when she told me Monday morning she didn’t want to go to school because she didn’t feel good I knew something was up.
It has been some time since I last posted to my blog, there just is never enough time in the day. Here is a quick update.
Dee is due to retire from the Navy next month after 20 years as a SeaBee. Her retirement ceremony is the end of this month on the Port Hueneme naval base here in California. As soon as her retirement ceremony is complete we load into the truck and make the drive back to Missouri.
We’re closing on a house we bought there in NW Missouri a few days before her retirement ceremony. Talk about cutting things close! It’s a nice house; I looked for nearly 2 years before finding this one. It’s a ranch style home with a great kitchen and a full basement. It’s located out in the country off of a state highway and sits on about 10 acres of property.
The girls are excited at the prospect, especially Sidney. She has a very strong bond with her grandmother and can’t wait to be near her. Jasmine is looking forward to being able to spend time with horses. Dee is looking into starting her own business once she is there. She is excited and looking forward to what the future may bring.
This week began Sidney’s second week in Kindergarten. She loves going and has no seperation issues when dad and Sophia watch her get on that bus every morning.
Her first day Dee and I dropped her off and attended a little welcome ceremony with Sidney. The little rat didn’t even so much as look over her shoulder when we told her good bye!!
Tonight was the open house at the school where Sidney will attend kindergarten. We met the principal and received a quick tour of the school.
Sending a child off to school is new for me. It is sure going to be strange not having her here with me during the day. Sophia is going to miss her, too. I’ll bet Sophia is even going to want to get get on that bus with her sister.
Somehow it doesn’t seem possible, but Sidney starts kindergarten next week! We picked up her school supplies about 2 weeks ago and new shoes and school clothes over the weekend. We’re attending an open house at the school later this week to see the school and meet the teachers. It is going to be strange not having her here with me during the day! Not to mention Sophia is sure going to miss her playmate while Sidney is off at school.
Sidney is very excited about finally getting to go to school. She sees Jasmine head off to school carrying a back pack and has been constantly asking when she gets to go, too. Now she gets her wish! I just wonder how long it is going to take for the first note to arrive saying Sidney likes to talk non-stop!
Yesterday while the girls were playing in the living room one of them stepped behind the box fan and called for her sister to come find her. She quickly noticed how the fan made the sound of her voice change. Soon they were both standing behind the fan and giggling as they spoke into the fan. It was a joy to listen to them giggle about the fun they were having with their make shift toy.
I remember playing with a fan in a similar manner when I was a kid. It makes me wonder how many generations of adventurous children have done the same thing.
Today we began the process of getting Sidney ready to begin Kindergarten. We picked up school supplies and began the medical exam process. She did well with the blood draw, so the worst part is over.
She is very excited to go and talks about it ALL the time. Dee and I both say we will get several notes from the teacher saying she talks non-stop.
So Sidney recently sought me out to tell me about something that she needed and to ask me to get it for her. Imagine my surprise when I heard her ask me for a “hooker”! I had her repeat it a couple of times to make sure I was hearing her correctly. Yes, I was hearing her correctly. Of course I took her to the other room so she could repeat her request for her mother to hear. Dee had the same confused look on her face that I likely had upon hearing Sidney’s request.
After a little discussion we had Sidney showing us a “hooker”. So what is a hooker, you ask? Why it is a plastic clothes hanger, of course!
