Sunflowers are blooming

June 21st, 2012 No comments

Our giant sunflowers are beginning to bloom. The chickens will sure enjoy these this fall when we lop them off and throw them into their pen.

Sunflowers and bird house gourds for the chickens

March 30th, 2012 No comments

Last week I tilled this spot next to the fence inside the chicken pen. The girls and I mixed in some pine shavings that sat on the chicken coop floor all winter and then planted some bird house gourds and giant sunflowers. The gourds should climb the fence and create shade and insect hunting for the chickens.
